Ten days from the earthquake, the commitment of the Italian Red Cross increases in the areas of Abruzzo hit by the earthquake. In this phase during which the media attention tends to decrease, our presence continues to strengthen over time.
On the coast of Pesaro more than 104 It.R.C. volunteer nurses are active providing nursing assistance and socio-psychological support to all those housed in the hotels between Alba Adriatica and Vasto.
There are now 4 playrooms offered by the Ministry for Equal Opportunities, run by the Italian Red Cross, with a capacity for 200 children in L’Aquila in the Red Cross camp of Coppito. Inside tables, chairs, footballs, toys, blackboards, games, televisions, videogames and DVDs. The Italian Red Cross will be setting up more playrooms in the following days.

The Italian Red Cross is running a total of 5 camps in the areas hit by the earthquake; two in Assergi, one in San Gregorio, one in Collemaggio and a fifth in Centicolella. The beds available are now 4500. A sixth camp is used to accommodate ItRC staff active in the disaster zone. In all 5 Red Cross camps the shower modules are operational.
Six Advanced Medical Posts of the Red Cross are now operational with volunteer doctors, nurses and logistic staff; and 2 triage tents for primary First Aid screening.
There are 5 mobile kitchens run by the Italian Red Cross, providing a total of 22.000 meals a day.
More than 700 volunteers and operators of the Italian Red Cross are working in the areas hit by the earthquake. Another 150 members of staff are working in the National Emergency Centre and 2500 volunteers are on a waiting list ready to go.

In the camp of Centicolella a Veterinary Unit is operational and to date has had 39 visits. The children have been involved in pet-therapy activities based on animal-man interaction. This Red Cross service, guaranteed by 3 vets and 2 assistants, is the only one available in the camps and is also able to carry out surgery.
The SEP teams for psychological support are active and at present close to the families hit by the tragedy. To date, 10 volunteer psychologists and 10 volunteers are providing psychosocial support.
More than 30 ambulances are operational. 14.000 blankets have been distributed.
230 tents with a 1.150 bed capacity offered by the Swiss Red Cross have been set up.

The offers of solidarity continue to pour in both from Italy and abroad. The donation of money and material goods grows daily, highlighting the extraordinary generosity towards the population hit by the tragedy.
